Drawdown, the final drain after your last pour, shows the trouble most clearly. A healthy bed holds the slurry, the mix of water and grounds, while a broken one lets it crash onto the paper in seconds.

How Fast Is Too Fast for a Pour-Over?

A standard one or two cup brew should take roughly two and a half to four minutes, timed from first water to last drip. Most single-cup recipes land near three to three and a half.

“Runs too fast” usually refers to that total brew time, not just the final drain. Start a timer when you first wet the grounds, and stop it when the drips end.

Finishing under about two and a half minutes is the usual red flag. A slurry that plunges between pours points to the same missing resistance.
